Vehicle Equipment - Mark’s Tips, sponsored by TJM Townsville
Preperation for the Motortrail | Mt. Isa to St. George | Vehicle Equipment | Vehicle Tyres | Safety | The 2009 Just4Kids Motor Trail will go to the most remote locations ever. For safe free motoring, my first advice is to always drive to the prevailing conditions.
Secondly, prepare your vehicle accordingly to allow you to have a fun and trouble free trip. As you can see in this photo, Glen from TJM Townsville and I are holding the sand pick which we luckily had on board and used as a mud pick to retrieve the Toyota on our way to Innamincka when unfortunately we encountered quite heavy rain. A big thanks to TJM for the good advice to take the sand pick along.
The road conditions will be moderate and you will not slip and slide as we did so a good set of tyres, minimum of 6 play should be fine. Big Red will be a challenge for those of you who will want to take up the challenge. We will have plenty of support if you become sand bogged. TJM Mt Isa and Townsville are on board this year and are promoting the 2009 Event throughout their stores.
Fathers Day is coming up so please visit your local TJM store and shout yourself a new snatch strap and a couple of shackles. You may need them in the sand. Remember a snatch strap is different to a tow strap. TJM sell a combined pack/bag with the lot including a very important air pump and tyre gauge and caps. To all our south Qld entrants, Bill Hicks at TJM Coopers Plains is the man to see. He is a wonderful supporter of J4K and thanks to Bill, Kerin now has a very snazzy nudge bar for all her aerials and a sump guard as extra protection for the Outlander.
