Information about the Just 4 Kids Motortrail 2009
2009 JUST4KIDS MOTOR TRAIL
Supporting Q150 – Queensland’s 150th Birthday party
THE OUTBACK FUNDRAISING MUSTER
Mt ISA to ST. GEORGE
Wednesday 19August – Friday 28 August 2009
The survey for the 2009 Just4Kids Motor Trail has been done. The route is in place. The accommodation pre booked. Meals, functions, schools and special events have been organised for you.
From the bustling mining city of Mt Isa you will travel through the tropical paradise and mystical gorges of Lawn Hill National Park and Adels Grove and trek the byways to the home of Qantas and the RFDS at Cloncurry, before crossing property boundaries to arrive in the delightful town of Boulia, home of the legendary Min Min light and the Donahue family , the early pioneers of the area.
From the mysteries of the Min Min lights you will travel through the desert to Birdsville where you will be amazed by the spirit and fortitude of this incredible town – remote but alive with amazing people who are never short of a yarn around the bar at the famous Birdsville Pub.
The challenge of Big Red awaits you along with many other interesting points of interest in this remote town. From Big Red you will cross into S.A. on your way to Innamincka, traversing clay pans and sand dunes along the Birdsville Track & the Strzelecki Desert.
From the flames of the night created by the oil and gas fields of Innamincka you will experience the isolation of the area heading to Thargomindah and the Opal fields of Quilpie, stopping for smoko at the unique Toompine hotel..
From the inspirational talented artists of Quilpie and QLD’s finest Opals you will travel the back roads to Aldville Home Stay Sheep and Cattle Station where you will see how it’s done in the outback. You will then travel into Cunnamulla and arrive the following day at St George for our final night.
This route will take you through the “salad bowl”of Qld, absolutely amazing country - the wild life is abundant as are the colours of the wheat, the Culgoa National Park and the rich red earth tones that abound through this area. From the mining towns, through the sparse desert to the rich fertile land of the Western Downs, this will be a journey to remember.
All you need to do now is to register on the adventure of a lifetime. The 2009 Just4Kids Motor Trail, supporting Q150, event is waiting for you. Again we are limited to 30 entrants due to the route.
